Are you gonna do it?, Martina asked.

Well, yeah. Why not, right? Nerves colored his tone slightly. He took off his shirt, threw it at his friend Benji who sat in a folding camp chair, and walked up to the edge of the cliff.

Don't die, Martina said, Your parents said they won't revive you if you die again.

And we don't have the money to buy you one, Benji added.

Yeah, yeah. Hey _fuck_ you guys, man, said Kurt. There's water down there, I'll be fine. Besides, he grinned, I got backed up less than a month ago. And d'ya really think _any_ of our parents would just let us rot in a server?

Kurt peered over the edge of the cliff. The water below was calm, save for the occasional wave that would crash into the wall. It had a greenish color. _I hope its warm, at least_, he thought to himself. It was awfully far down.

Martina and Benji shared a glance. Truthfully, Kurt's parents _would_ have him revived. All of their parents would. Their families were all insured, after all, so the full price of a revival would be cut down pretty significantly. They were lucky in that way, they supposed.

Ugh, just jump already!, Martina rolled her eyes. Benji could be so childish sometimes. Kurt turned around and looked at Benji deadpan.

If you stick the landing, she said slyly, maybe I'll let you take me out one of these days. She winked, and Kurt's cheeks were not the same shade of pink as they were before. Benji raised his eyebrows and briefly made eye contact with Kurt out of the corner of his eye, but didn't say anything.

Really?

Hmm. I'll think about it. Martina shrugged, sitting on the warm red stone, her legs out in front of her and her hands propping her up from behind. She smiled at him prettily.

A stupid grin grew on Kurt's face and he immediately started to step backward, barely turning around before he jumped off the cliff and entered free fall.

Benji and Martina shared his exuberant energy as they watched him fall spread eagle, whooping all the way down. He disappeared beneath the surface of the water nearly three seconds later. They waited there for a moment, awaiting Kurt's triumphant yell but it didn't come.

Think he's alright?, Benji looked at Martina inquisitively. Her right hand covered her mouth, eyes wide. Her expression momentarily confused Benji until he looked back at the water. It was hard to see from so high up, but the spot where Kurt landed was tinged red. Nearby, a body bobbed on the waters surface. It was wearing Kurt's banana-print swim pants.

Shoot, Benji murmured. Maybe it was shallower than we thought? Martina, You ok? He looked over at her. She had sat up and her face had shifted to a less intense expression of shock.

Yeah. Yeah, I'm good, she said. I've never seen someone die that way, though. She rubbed her arms

Guess he's not getting that date out of you, huh?, Benji nudged her arm with his elbow.

No, I guess not. They sat there for another moment.

We''re gonna have to tell his parents, Benji sighed. They won't be happy about this.

Martina nodded and went to pull on a white fishnet coverup. Let's go, she said. The sooner we do this, the more time we have to get food.

I'll take the cooler, said Benji.
